    • @SpeechSecrets

      I am not familiar with any research using this exercise specifically for PD. Unlike stroke, dysphagia in PD degenerates with disease progression. This article suggests a few treatment options specific for PD, including expiratory muscle strength training: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6995701/

    I'm really happy to have found your channel! I would love to see it flourish, and I'm excited to check out the rest of the content. I myself have a long history of poor posture, causing many pathologies which seem all interconnected. It feels like I just "learned" to use my body wrong--mind-muscle disharmony--which I attribute to being so neurodivergent. I suffer dysphasia, as well as trouble projecting when I speak. I've been trying to unravel and fix my problems for 20 years. I'm way overdue for finding a specialist to help...

    Hi so these exercises help when u have no epiglottitis and u also have a trach? Really want food again.

    • @SpeechSecrets
      @SpeechSecrets 6 днів тому

      Hi Melissa! I'm so sorry to hear about the struggles with eating. Eating food is such a big factor for quality of life. I would highly recommend that you see a speech therapist who can make specific recommendations for your case and anatomical differences. Many swallow exercises aim to help out the epiglottic movement. Without this structure in place, airway protection is significantly compromised.

    Can someone practice these therapies if he use to stammer?

    • @SpeechSecrets
      @SpeechSecrets 8 днів тому

      The target audience for this video is dysarthria and mumbling, not stuttering. Slowing rate and taking pauses can be beneficial for individuals with a stammer, however over articulation of consonants is not a helpful strategy for this population. In fact, it’s the opposite of an approach for stuttering used called light articulation contacts.

    Very occasionally if I accidentally inhale a droplet of water (shower or swimming), or it hits the back of my throat wrong or a potato chip particles hit the back of my throat if I partially inhale it my epiglottis seizes up and I can't breathe for a long period, like a pinhole of air getting through. Then if I cough during this time it stays closed even longer. It's a very panicked situation and then eventually it relaxes but it feels an eternity. Any exercises for epiglottis or something that might prevent it from seizing up? My ENT said a long time ago there was nothing I can do.

    • @SpeechSecrets
      @SpeechSecrets 19 днів тому

      Hi STT99! I cannot make any person specific recommendations legally. There are many factors involved with speech which can cause slurred speech and a full evaluation is required to identify which exercises or strategies best suit an individual. Tongue strength and range of motion is one of those factors involved with speech. Good for you for looking for resources to help your speech goals. I do hope you find my videos helpful and you may consider looking through my clear speech series that I am currently adding to.
